40th Anniversary of the UN Convention against Torture

The Convention against Torture was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1984 (resolution A/RES/39/46) and entered into force on 26 June 1987 after being ratified by 20 states.

The Convention against Torture is one of the fundamental documents in the field of human rights, which prohibits torture under any circumstances.

On 10 February 1995, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment entered into force in Tajikistan.
