Civil Society Coalition against Torture and impunity in Tajikistan
15-16 October 2024, Dushanbe – A two-day training will be held for the staff of the Main Department for the Execution of Punishment of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan on international human rights standards, the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules), the UN Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders (the Bangkok Rules).
The event will be held within the framework of the project “Path to Justice: Strengthening Human Rights through Torture Prevention and Penitentiary System Reform”, funded by the European Union. The training is conducted by the Public Organization “The World of Law”, the Dutch Foundation “Perspectivity Challenge” in partnership with the Main Department for the Execution of Punishment of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan, the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF), and the Public Foundation “Legal Initiative”.
The training will be attended by 25 employees of various correctional institutions and pre-trial detention centers of the Main Department for the Execution of Punishment (Prison Service) of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The event will cover the main principles of the Nelson Mandela Rules, the protection of the rights of women and children in places of deprivation of liberty, issues of medical care and rehabilitation of prisoners.
