Civil Society Coalition against Torture and impunity in Tajikistan
As part of the campaign “Stop torture and impunity” dedicated to International Day in support of victims of torture which is celebrated annually on June 26 mobile legal consulting offices have been set up in Dushanbe, Bokhtar, Kulyab, and Khujand cities. Lawyers of Coalition member organizations provided onsite free legal aid for over 100 people who applied for help.
On May 24, 2022 consultations were provided in Dushanbe city by lawyers Azizjon Boboev from Public Organization “The world of Law” and Abdurahmon Sharipov from Public Organization “Independent Centre for Human Rights Protection”, the member-organization of the Civil Society Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan;
On May 28, 2022 consultations were provided in Bokhtar by members of the Civil Society Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan jointly with the representatives of the local branch of the Union of Lawyers of RT: Nazokat Mahmadalieva and Ibrohim Karimov;
June 06, 2022 in the city of Khujand and June 08, 2022 in the city of Penjikent - lawyers Khursheda Rakhimova and Fakhriddin Fuzailov, NGO "Nachalo", which is the member-organization of the Civil Society Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan;
Free consultations to the public on all human rights issues were provided by lawyers of the Coalition from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Citizens were interested in various information - about the procedures for registering a marriage and filing for divorce, labor migration, pension entitlement, rights of children of divorced parents, housing issues, etc.
“Such consultations are important, free of charge, and available to the population groups unable to pay for legal services” – said Mukarram, a resident of the capital.
“I have got an answer to a question I had long been looking for. The question was about housing issues. Thanks to lawyers who have been involved in this free-of-charge campaign. Now I know how to act and protect myself” – states Zarina, a resident of Dushanbe.
The activities were made possible within the framework of the project “Strengthening actions to prevent torture and support human rights organizations in Tajikistan”, funded by the European Union\Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
