New human rights project to be implemented with EU support in Tajikistan

The European Union is financing a new project entitled “Coordinated civil society action to monitor the implementation of international and national human rights obligations in Tajikistan” under the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).

The project will be implemented by International Partnership for Human Rights (Belgium, project leader) and the Public Foundation “Nota Bene” and the Independent Centre for Human Rights Protection (Tajikistan). The Civil Society Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan will also be involved in the implementation of the project. The project will be carried out over a period of 24 months and has a total budget of EUR 513 671.

The new joint project is aimed at supporting and strengthening civil society efforts to promote compliance with international and national standards in key areas of human rights protection, including freedom of expression, association and assembly, non-discrimination, freedom from torture and ill-treatment, and access to justice. The project will entail the following categories of activities: human rights monitoring and case work with victims; human rights reporting and advocacy; capacity-building; media and outreach work; and civil society coalition building.
